You know what your latest ride was probably missing? A soundtrack. Unless you go to considerable effort to organise a boom box or risk life and limb by riding with earphones in, there isn’t an easy way to listen to tunes on the road. That’s why some of my buddies have organised Bike Rave Melbourne. The idea is simple: gather as many speakers as possible, download a playlist, cover your bike in lights and reflective stuff, hit the play button simultaneously and pedal/boogie your way through the streets for a cool three hours.
I have witnessed the awesome sound that comes out of the official bike rave speaker, it is set up on a trailer and pumps out beats like nobody’s business. The organisers are asking everyone who has a portable speaker to download the playlist and bring their equipment along – more bikes making noise will mean a better night for all!
There will be a few stops along the way to give everyone time to cut the rug and allow stragglers to catch up. This is not a race which means the roads will be open to regular traffic and road rules should be obeyed by all riders.
If you can’t make it to the party you can keep up to date with the latest happenings by following #bikerave.
Details: Saturday June 21, meet at Birrarung Marr on the Capitol City Trail at 6:30pm for a 7:30pm departure, the event will only be cancelled in the case of seriously heavy rain.
