Reporting on the beautiful products from Lumo (that they are currently funding on Kickstarter) got me thinking about how I really would like a similar sort of light that I could retrofit to bags or jackets. I couldn’t believe that such a product didn’t already exist so I got to Googling and found the Commuter X4 by Veglo.
This is a rear light designed to fit like a harness over your shoulders or a backpack, making you easily visible from the sides and behind. It is a little goofy but there is no way any driver will fail to see you if you are wearing it. They reckon it takes you 30 seconds to get it on.
It is interesting that Edward Ward, the creator of the Commuter X4, had the idea after an accident with a lorry, similar to Doug’s story about why he started Lumo. Anecdotally it seems that lorries have a hard time seeing traditional seat-post mounted lights, which makes sense given that truck drivers are positioned up high, where your butt will obscure the view. The Commuter X4 is a pretty neat solution, and you can buy it online now, they deliver worldwide.
