Reindeer Rampage

This past weekend Melbourne Bike Polo held their third annual Christmas tournament. Eleven teams competed over two warm, sunny days. The atmosphere was relaxed and cheerful, while the games were close and intense. There was a big contingent of players and their partners from across the ditch (NZ), along with a good sized crew from Sydney. Kudos go to the players from Singapore and Canada, for travelling so very far to join the fun.

The first day consisted of six Swiss rounds to seed the teams for the triple elimination on the second day. This meant each team played a lot of polo, especially the NZ and Melbourne players who competed in the bench game on the Saturday evening (photos here).

Saucy Check (Ned, Dave and Claire) took home the prize, defeating Melbourne Anchor (Damon, Leigh and Adam) 2-1 in a close final. Best in Show (Andy, James and Will) came third and Sydney Sleighers (Dan, Ben and Joel) finished in fourth place.

Below are my photos from the weekend, please excuse the lack of pictures of Saucy Check, I happened to be in that particular team, and didn’t manage to get any pictures while on the court!
