This past weekend Canberra held it’s first ever tournament! Woot! This is actually a pretty amazing achievement, given that Canberra only has two local regular players, Tim and Nick.
It was a bench format, with the six teams being drafted by the organisers from the pool of registered players, this meant that everyone got to play with a bunch of new people. Notably, there were a lot of new young local players, who had only ever played polo once or twice before, but they seemed very comfortable on their dual suspension mountain bikes. They also managed to pick up time and score-keeping skills over the weekend, what heroes!
The competition was fierce, with most games being very tight and fiercely fought. There could only be one winner at the end of the day, and it was through the power of double denim that Polo Yolo took home the grand prize (which was some very amusing souvenir fridge magnets).
Thanks CBR! I can’t wait till you do it again next year.
P.S. A big shout-out to my team mates from Evil Chickens; thanks to Tim and Ben for scoring all the goals, to Tom and Ella for saving all the goals, and to all of you for putting up with my enthusiastic encouragement (aka. shouting – it’s the best way to enjoy sports you know).
