Hobart Bike Polo was formed in 2013 and recently held their inaugural tournament – the Ho-Town Hoedown. Polo players from all over Australia descended upon our country’s nether regions to battle it out in what ended up being a very classy competition. Brisbane boys Jamie, Ollie and Tom formed the team Penile Colony and took out first place, narrowly beating Brook, Kent and Marty from Sydney team Wild Oats in an exciting double final. Third place went to another Sydney team, Tres Caprones, made up of Andrew, Danny and Tom who kept their heads cool and displayed impeccable teamwork, it was a joy to watch and won them the award ‘Team of the Tournament’.
The Hobart crew outdid themselves on the organisational front – the venue had two awesome courts, a hill for spectators, tennis seating for the refs on court B, a sound system, Ecru coffee in the mornings, sausages for lunch, plus a sound system and some very cool prizes from Henty, Knog, Emily Dimozantos Photography and Cool Wine.
My team was called Pretty Much and I have to thank my team mates James and Tom for putting up with my enthusiastic and sometimes wild play – it’s easy to get excited when you are having as much fun at a tournament as I was at this one.
The wire fence around the court meant I didn’t get as many photos of the actual gameplay as usual, instead I turned my lens to the players and spectators off the court. I hope you enjoy them!
I took over 2000 photos this weekend, the above are my first selection and edit. If I have the chance I will get some more of them up for you to check out.
Hobart has since announced that they will be hosting the Ho-Town Hoedown again in 2015. Book your tickets early, I have a feeling next years tourney will be maxed out!
