You might have noticed that the blog has been a bit quiet over the past week, it is because I have been in Sydney at the Australasian Hard Court Bike Polo Championships. The event is held over three days but I arrived early to help set up, then stayed an extra day to recover. It is safe to say that after a solid week of long drives, setting up courts, refereeing and playing polo I am totally exhausted and behind in most of the things I really should be doing! It was worth it for the polo.
There were 40 teams competing from Australia, New Zealand and Malaysia, with 32 of them entering the double elimination round held on the final day. Competition was fierce, with The Fist taking home the trophy in a gruelling double final against the The Alchemists. This means the trophy is now safely stored in Melbourne for the next year – Dave and Andy from our local scene won it with the help of lefty Sean who flew in from Seattle to compete.
Stay tuned for part II, where I will share some more of the stories and photos from the comp.
My thanks go to Robbie Hannibal, Tom Partington and Cathy Pell who kindly took some photos while I was playing.
